The mountain Wendelstein (1,838 m) is part of in the Mangfall Mountains in the Bavarian Alps, about 55 km South-East of Munich. On the mountain's top a solar observatory and an astronomical observatory of the LMU University Munich as well as a broadcast station of the Bayerischer Rundfunk are located.
To provide Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB-T) for all Southern Bavaria, the broadcast station was extended by an antenna in the spring of 2005. The waste heat of the new transmitting station has to be dissipated reliably to ensure a long service life of the overall installation.
The company Güntner AG & Co. KG provided 8 drycoolers for this purpose that had to be flown to the mountain's top with a special helicopter – a very challenging undertaking! But due to the robust supporting profile of the Güntner units, the units arrived safely and ensure a constant operating temperature of the installation.
